BASEBALL.

TO-DAY'S ATTRACTIONS..

To-day there will be a double- header in the Hongkong Buso' all League at Happy Vallay. The Japanese Club will meet the Indian Recreation Club in the 'first game at 2.30 p.m. sharp, while the Hongkong Baseball Ulub and 'the Hongkong Volunteer Defence Corps will play the second match at 4.30 p.m.

On Sunday, the South China and the Filipino Club game will be staged at 4 pm. The Filipinos are now loading in the league baving suffered no defeat.

Sir-Much of the value of the viewe so elaborately put forward by "A Chinese Schoolmaster" in thei correspondence columns of your paper of the 4th inst. has been dia counted by this worthy gentleman's all too apparent spite against pri- vately run educational Institutes. It may be interesting to know his grounds for animadverting upon such institutes as "commercialis- ed." Why he should single out! private institutes for his attack is beyond comprehension. Does huj want to show his loyalty to his non- private institute "bong" who might have Instrueted him to do it, by making such an assertion? Surely, a man of his position ought to know better than to cast alurs upon. pri-! vato institutes in general without absolute good cause. It may be that the institutes he had in mindi still leave room for improvement; | but are private institutes alone. wanting in this regard; and are 'ai! other Institutions perfect?
