"SELF-IMPOSED QUESTIONS,

The judge yesterday said that what had happened was lamentable disaster. Instead of following the directions given to them, and of answering the two substantial question's left to them the jury. gratuitously, and for some reason best known to thom- solves, after answering the first question, proceeded to propound to themselves and to answer soparately two other questions, with neither of which had they boen asked to deal at all..

Both of those questions, in the judge's view, were irrelevant and inconclusive.

This is the description, cortain- ly not exaggerated, which Lord. Knutsford gives to the goneroua record of a friend of the London Hospital.

In certain cases (writes Lord Kuntsford] the only chance of saving a patient's life is by blood transfusion. A pint of blood is

taken direct from the veins of the provider and injected into the veins of the patient. It is not a pleasant experience, and not onti- rely devoid of risk to the provider. All providers are not suitable to all patients, and at a large hospital like this, therefore, we have a classified list of good men who will "stand a pint" when called on of A. B. C. or D. group. The "D" brand is, on emergency, suitablo to all patients, and by good for- tune we have hit upon a univorsel provider, who is always within telephone call, and prepared to come at a moment's notice during the day or night,
