Lost and Found.

How a valuable 18th century. book was lost and found again was described by Sir D'Arsy Power, in a lonture at the Royal British Nurses Association, Queen's-gata, rocently..

Sir D'Arcy, who is consulting surgeon to St. Bartholomew's Hospital, was lecturing on John Huntor, the graat 18th century: Burgoon and anatomist, and he mentioned that, in February last," when looking over proofe of a life of Sir William Oslor, he came Across a passage in which Sir Will- iam expressed regret at having missed at a sale an illustrated edition of a work by Jonse Foot, a contemporary of Hunter.

This work, which consisted of two huge volumes so heavy that he could soarodly lift them, Bir. D'Arcy traced to a West-and firm,

It contained a collection of con- temporary portraits of John Hunter, but reproductions of these, shown during the lecture, revealed that they were mainly caricatures of the fatnous surgeon.

The work threw an interesting light on Hunter and his times, and it was hoped to publish it some day.

Sir D'Arcy recalled that Hunter had a habit of driving a oart drawn by two buffaloes down Piccadilly. "You “will conclude," he added, "that traffic conditions were not quite what they are now."
