THE NORTH POLE,

Washington; June 3. Ometal circles are perplexed at the report from Ottawa that Mr. Stewart, the Canadian Minister of the Interior told the Dominion House of Commons that Canada expects to claim any landa discovered north of Canada as far as the Pole. The forthcoming Macmillan expedition which will receive aid from the unvy is intended to raise the American flag on any now land discovered which probably will be comparatively valueless except possibly as a future aviation base, but it is not thought that any serious Americo-Canadian controversy will arise on the matter.-Reuter's American Service.

Ottawa, June 3.

Mr. Mackensie King announced in the House of Commons that the Government expected shortly to appoint a Canadian representative at Washington but difficulty was experienced in obtaining anyone willing to accept on account of the personal financial outlay involved. The House of Commons thereupon voted $60,000. to cover the salary and expenses of the post-Reutor's Amcrean Service.
