COMMUNIST CONFERENCE AT GLASGOW.

London, May 28.

In in the House of Commons in reply to questions, Sir William Joynson-Hicks, the Home Secretary, intimated that permission had been refused to various foreign Communists to attend the Communiat conference at Glasgow on the 30th, Any of them landing without permission would be deported.

Mr. George Lansbury and Mr, J. B. Clynes naked the definition of subversive propaganda and whether the Government had decided that Communist propaganda was illegal.

Sir William Joynson-Hicks replied that certain things were permitted to British nationals but the Government could not permit foreigners to come here and do them (Ministerial, cheers).

Mr. Lansbury asked if this was the result of communications with other governments with a view of preventing Britons participating in international conferences abroad.

CHINESE EASTERN RAILWAY.

Moscow, May 28. Commenting on the conflict over the Chinese Eastern Railway owing to the Chinese President of the Board of Railway Directors cancelling the order of the general manager, Mr. Ivanov, dismissing railway employees who were neither Chinese nor Soviet citizens, the Izvestia suggests that behind the activity of the Manchurian adminis- tration violating the interests of the railway as well as general political interests of the Soviet, is Chang Tsu-lin's hostility to the Soviet whom it suspects of alleged support of Feng and the Kuomint ang and also incitements of foreign powers.

Reactionary circles in Japan are striving to drive out the Soviet from Manchuria, particularly from the Chinese Eastern Railway, Britain also has lately favourably changed her treatment of Chang Teo-lin,

7

If Chang were against Feng and the Kuomintang the Chili forces would again be regrouping. He chooses to forget that be. has the Soviet in his rear. The worse for him. Izvestia recommends the Japanese Government to use the influence of its Manchurian agents with a view to negotiations for the restoration of normal Russo- Japanese relations.-Reuters,

BULGAR ASSASSINS. HANGED.

Sofia, May 28. Ghastly scenes marked the public execution of three of the men tondemned, including Friedmann and the Sacristan of the Cathedral, Zadgorsky, for participation in the Cathedral outrage.

Victorin Recreation Club, the Chinese swimmers also competed. As was generally expected, the Japanese, led by their star, K. Takaishi, won most of the events. but the V. R. C. and the Chinese put up quite a good showing and all very materially contributed to a wonderfully successful evening. The Lyric Orchestra was pre- sent throughout the evening, and played a splendid programme of music during the intervals and for dancing later on."

At the prize distribution, Mr. R. C. Witchell expressed thanks to both the Japanese and Chinese swimmers for assisting in contri- buting to a very pleasant evening. Several speeches were delivered, the visiting delegation expressing their gratitude for being enter- tained, Flashlight photographs of the swimmers and spectatora were taken during the evening.
