The Swarajist outlook was surveyed by the. Jeader, C.R. Das, In his presidential address before the Bengal Provincial Congress at Faridpur. Mr. Dae said Swaraj was attainable within the British Empire because the Dominions' status expresses and implies all the elements of Swaraj,
Mr. Das recondemned revolutionary violence, but said the co- operation Invited by. Lord Birkenhead is impossible in the present atmosphere of distrust. He declared that if the Swaraj's settlement was not responded to they must continue to make administration Impossible and be prepared for ultimate civil disobedience; but he did not anticipate such a contingency, as he saw signs of reconcilia- tion everywhere.-Router,
STORMS AND FOG.
Halifax, May 2. Heavy seas and fog during the past eighteen hours were res- ponsible for loss of lives and property along the coasts of Nova Scotia, A mysterious S.O.S. message from the American steamer Clackamas, broadcasted last night, was solved on the arrival this morning of the Clackamas, which unfolded a tragedy, of the night, She had rammed the schooner Capdor, four of whose crew and whose Captain's wife were drowned.
Two other steamers are ashore.-Router.

Nine seamen were drowned by the capsizing of a small Ameri- can steamer in the heavy sea in lake Erie-Reuters American Service.

GERMAN RAILWAY DISASTER. ̧
Warsaw, May 3.
Great concern is felt in Poland in regard to the castastrophe to the German train passing the Polish corridor. It is generally be- lieved that the object of the perpetrators was to discredit Poland by creating the impression that Germany cannot.safely exercise her that Germany right of transit through the corridor. It is feared will use the incident as an argument for the abolition of the cor- ridor. It is stated that several similar but smaller incidents recently occurred in different parts of Poland-Reuter.
FRENCH POLITICS.

The party complexion of 44,000 Municipal councillors whom the country will elect to-morrow is expected to have an unusual psychological reaction on national politics, In view of the tempern- mental incompatibility of the Senate and Chambér. The results will cause Senators to tend to stiffen or relax their hostility to the advanced financial and Social policies of the Chamber.-Reuter

The Princess Royal had a severe gastrid haemorrhage yesterday, which was followed by considerable shock and weakness. H. R. H. had a restful night and regained some strength. There has been no recurrence of the incident.
Their Majesties visited the Princess Royal, who is somewhat better.-Reuter.
NEW ARMOUR PIERCING SHELL.

"The dream of armament experts and metallurgists has come true". Thus Sir Robert Hadfield referred to a now type of armour- piercing shell of sixteen inch calibre for the British service. He added that tests carried out would have been believed impossible two or three years ago.-Reuter.
ABDEL KRIM ATTACKS.

It is reported from Rabat that Morcecan troops penetrated the French zone between posts northward of Ouerghe, in the direction of Benizergual. It appears that Abdel Krim has launched a regular offensive during the past few days. The necessary counter- rocasures have been taken.-Renter.

"Faria, May 30 To-day France elects the municipal councillors holding office for. the next four years. Under the present circumstances political eircles consider the ballot to be of the utmost importance as they think that in the results there will be made known the national opinion as to the Policy of the left block.
The elections are important also because the councillors elected to-day will be called upon to elect one third of the senate for 1927. Two hundred and fifty deputies and 30 senators are seeking re election as councilors, especially M. Herriot, the mayor of Lyons, Havas.
FRANCO-TURKISH RELATIONS.
Paris, May 3: Presenting his credentials to M, Doomergue, the new Turkish ambassador, M. Fethibey declared that the Turkish government especially recommended, him to draw, closer the ties of sincere Franco-Turkish friendship. M. Douergue replied hoping that confident collaboration would be established between the two coun- tries for the mutual prosperity and maintenance of peace in the East-Haves.
