In making the presentation, Mr. P. P. J. Wodehouse said it was always sad to lose an old comrade but the function was not without its pleasant side when they con- sidered the fact that owing to deaths from natural or other cruses, whilst serving in the Force, very few officers lived long enough to earn their full pension, So it was a nice thing when a senior officer like Inspector. Ear ner was able to draw full pension to which he was entitled. Most of them had known Mr. Earner for & number of years. He (Mr. Wodo house) had known him for 24 years for the greater part of which they were closely associated. He remembered on one occasion his wife presented Mr. Earner with a pair of trousers to replace the pair which had been taken off by a dog, which, appropriately enough, was a compatriot of Mr. Earner. (Laughter), Inspector Earner joined the force in 1898 and there fore had seen very nearly 27 years of service.
