For a long time past there have been rumours that certain im- portaat concerns connected with the Dutch East Indies had offored ondow Utrecht, Stato University with as many chairs a8 would be required for the completo training of future colonial civil servants, Events now show those stories to bol very well founded.

The

customery courses for students of the Dutch Archipelago have hitherto beon" hold Leyden, where six professore-of high ropulu deal with differont sides of the subject. At other universities an "Indian woak"" ha hoon organised once a year, but Leydan was unquestionably the academy for the man who wished to dovole their lives to work in the East.

Recently statements have been made by roprosentives of the "big trado" class that the Loydan inflonco should be looked. upan. with suspicion. It was suggested that the Layden professors gavo anduo emphasis to questions of othies and that their teachings on the responsibility of foreign capitalism to the natives was liable to misinterpretation. Hence chargos of encouraging`. revolutionary atmosphere against Dutch rujo Amongst the nativos, and in general of hostile attitude towards big capitalism and towards the work of the Government in the Archi- pelago. It is by way of combati ing these influences that the combined concerns have agroad to found a faculty of. Indonesian studies at Utrecht.

The Government" bas by no word or action shown us disap- proval of this private enterprise, which not only accuses Leyden of antinational teaching, but which will tend to give defenite and one-sided colouring to the

The Polish Press recalls that another Polish King, Stanislaw of Leszczynski, father-in-law Louis XV, is supposed to be in- terred in the same cathedral. Leszczynski died in 1766, in Lun- eville, and was primarily buried in Nancy, whore his royal tomb still exists. But the tomb is empty. According to one version, the coffin with the body was abstract- ed by Polish legionsaios who fought under Napoleon I., and placed in the palace of Counts Zahuskis in Warsaw. Some time later the pallace was pilleged by Russian soldiers, and the valuable coffin, with the body, was sup- posed to have been sent as booty to Petrograd.
