TAREWELL DINNER.

MRR E O. BIRD ENTERTAINED.

There was a happy gathering at the To Yuen Restuarant on Satur day evening, when the masters and former masters of the Ellis Kadooria School entertained Mr. R. O. Bird, the Headmaster, to dinner. It was a farewell dinner and was well attended Among the guests were Mrs. Bird, Mr. and Mrs de Romo and Mr. and Mrs C. Mycock Mr. Bird is leaving the Colony on retir ing and sailed with Mrs Bird to-day. Mr. Choi, the chief Chinese mas tor at the Ellis Kadoorio School, presided.

In a short speech Mr. Lou expressed regret for Mr. Bird's departure

It was largely to the keen interest and the able manage ment of Mr. Bird that the Ellis. Kdouria School owed its present prosperous condition. Ho wished Mr. and Mrs Bird bon voyage and many years of happy retirement in their home country,

Mr. Lau Choi thon presented to Mr. Bird & beautiful Chinese paint ing, in a blackwood frame, which bore in the centre the Chiasso character Sun, meaning longevity, and also a group photo. taken at Happy Valley a few days ago,

Eulogistic reference was made by Mr. Chan Sing-u, a former teacher of the school, to Mr. Bird's distinc- tive methods of tenching which, he said, proved quite successful at the Ellis Kadoorie School Mr. Bird had always paid particular atten tion to colloquial. English so that pupils might have a fairly good ocabulary when they left school A gliḥ knowledge of colloquial Eng- lish was highly desirable in Chinese boys,

Mr. Bird replied, thanking his hosts for the entertainment and their kind remarks. He took the oppor tunity of thanking the staff for their loyal co-operation. He hoped the sime co-operation would continue when Mr. Rome, his successor, sumed duty. Mr. Bird thanked the masters for their present which, o enid, he would treasure as a memen to of the many happy years which he had spent in Hongkong.

The dinner was followed by a pleasing programme of songs and music to which the masters contri- buted.

More Praise for Baby's Own Tablets from India.

"Thanks to Baby's Own Tablots my baby Josephine has been cured of constipation and worms. They were wonderful during hor teething period," writes Mrs. Irene Mendoza, of Roso Otiage, Vile Parle, Bombay.

Mothers every where who once try Baby's Own Tablets for their little ones never want to be with- out them again, they are so surely and speedily helpful in so many of the ailments of childhood. The first thing they do is to gently move the bowels, banishing con- stipation and colic, or checking diarrhoea by removing its cause. Then they sweeten the stomach, aid digestion, improve the ap patite, cool foverishness, calm the nerves, induce sound refresh [ing sleep.
