STUDENT RIOT IN PARIS.

Paris, April 1.

A warm debate in the Chamber on the rioting in the Latin to 22. quarter on the 28th of last month terminated at three in the morn- ing with a vote of confidence in the Government of 318 M. "Albert, the Minister of Education, condemned the movement as political and refused to countenance sabotageing the university or to recognise the right of the students to appoint the professors.

According to the nev spapers a recently formed committee for the defence of university liberties issued a manifesto calling on the students to déclare a forty-eight hour strike.

The Soviet Government are ready to meet the "solid elements of private capital, inviting them to pass from profiteering operations to normal trade with normal profits." Thus M. Steinmann, Com- missary of inland trade, declared, addressing a meeting of oprem companies. He explained the sentatives of private firms and Soviet's attitude towards the influx of private capital in trade and industry in Russia, adding that the Government were ready to grant credit fiscal and juridical facilities.
