A local motorist who frequent* ly contributes to this supplement has recently had an opportunity of testing ono of the latest Armstrong Biddeloy 14 h.p. 4 cyl. cars, which model is fairly well known as the younger brother of the 6 cyl. 18 and 30 h.p typos of the same mako.

The specification includes a 4 cyl. o. h. v. engine of 14 h.p.. R. A. C. rating. Tho valvos which aro vortical and not in line fin the dotsohablo hoad, ara ́oper- ated by push rods, the clearance boing easily adjusted by a scrow and look nut in the rocker arm bearing on the end of the push rod. Tho carburottor is a special model "Claudel Hobson "tho lighting, starting and electrio horn baing by "Lucas."

The driva is takon through a dry plate clutch to a three spoed and roverso gear box bolted to the front end of the torque tube enoloning the propellor shaft. Springing is by quartor elliptics enclosed in gaiters all round, and this in conjunction with the ex- collent leather upholstering, gave romarkably easy suspension.

The car was taken over from the agents, (The Hongkong Hotel Garage) and loaded withi four adult passengers and two children. Although brand new, the starting was quite easy and the clutch took up the drive with commendable sweetness. The change up was excellent, only a very slight pause being necos. Bary. The steering was somo- what reminiscent of the " Esrox,” being light, and got positive, and with just sufficient castor action provided to return the wheel without effort after a

The control of the car is so light that long drives can be undertaken without fatiguo, The drive under roviow WGA takon round the Island via Abordoon, Repulse Bay etc. On Caine Road the extrome flexiblity of the ongino became apparent, several times it being necessary to come down to a more crawl, after which the engine would accelerato with no sign of match from the transmis- sion. When a change down was required, the acceleration in second was really hot. Thero was no suspicion o a flat spot in. the carhurottor, and this dosir able feature was not obtained by anriching the mixturo. There was no sign of "hunting," and a plug taken out for axperimentai purposes was devoid of any sign of rich mixture soot,

When descending Dairy Farm Hill, an opportunity was taken of testing the brakes. Both hand and foot a o internal expanding forodo faced shoes on drums in the back wheels, and each was independan ly capable of pulling up the car on the steepest part. No matter how hard the brakes wore applied, the wheels raraly akidded.

The hill out of Ropulso Bay was taken on top, although probably owing to the stiffness of the new engine, A cha go down was necessary on he hill from Tai Tam Tuk Changing down was quite easy, providing the double drotutching method was employ- jod, and just before the top of the hill was reached, it was possiblo to change up again.
