LONDON'S MUSIC HALLS.

Obliged to Remain “Dry,”

The London County Council has decided that 17 new music halla of the Metropolis must remain "dry."

About 20 years ago the Council decided that the sale of liquor in music balls was undesirable and that no new music hall should be licensed excupt on condition that alcohol should not bo wold in it. Consequently hails ostablished sinen thou have rott been allowed to sell liquor and they have persistently apponlad against the restriction on the grounde that they are thereby placed at a disadvantago compared with

oldor music halls which have always sold drink. Recently they soomed to be within sight of obtaining a ramoval of the ros- triction. It has boon urged on their bohalf that the matter is becoming more acute for them. because they have now to moe: the additional recently arison competition of cabarots organised by hotels and restaurants.

A PICTURE.YOU CAN'T FORGET

To see it is to love it. Not alone for the beautiful star, the incomparable Jans Novak, or for the masterful direction of Chester Bennett, but for its picture com- position, its unusual story and the finish work of every member in the cast. A ploture as tender in theme as the songs of childhood-beginning with the plaintive strain of a mother's devotion, subdued and peaceful, and swelling to a mighty crash of symphonie vibra- tions in a climax, tremendous and startling. "The "will stay with you long after you leave tho Lullaby theatre.
