Shanhaikuan, Oct, 15. Shanhaikuan is quiet, but there was incessant firing-pt Chlumen. between three and six o'clock this morning, subsiding at eight,
A Chihil bullotin (dated Monday) says two divisions of three brigades at the Shanhaikuan front had been instructed to assume the offensive. The morale of the whole army is excellent.
"We gained more than ten li at Shahochis, breaking the enemy's line, and expect to retake Chlumen this evening. Fierce fighting is still pro- ceeding. The enemy attacked at Bantaokunn, pouring a continuou and deadly are into our left flank for three hours, until they ran short of ammunition, whereupon our troops attacked and scattered the enemy, capturing three hundred rifles, four mountain guns, the breech-blocks of which were removed, also thirty men. Threa enamy brigades have bean transferred from the Jehpl front, presumably in order reinforce the troops at Shanhaikuan.”

Klangsu Forces in Lunghua Bought Over-
Shanghai, Oct. 16,
A somewhat serious aituation has arisen as a result of Little Isu, with the support of the remaining Chekiang leaders in Shanghai, buy-" ing over the Kiangsu troops which occupied Langhua. These troops have now been joined by the disbanded Cheklang forces and the com- bined forces, numbering approximately six thousand, have entrenched themselves near Lunghun on the line of advance of Sun Chuan-fang from Sungkiang, and also along the railway line just outside the boundary of the foreign settlement, on the line of advance of Chih Sich-yuan from Quinsan.
Acting in concert with these troops, certain Cheklang forces numbering four thousand are marching to Hangchow from Ningpo. thus threatening Sun's rear. Chl's troops have now balled thres miles from Hau's troops along the railway and negotiations are pro-, ceeding, which it is hoped my stop the fighting, but foreign officials- here regard the situation 'as very serious-Rentor.

The Fenglien troops have been reinforced on the Chlumen front and heavy fighting is proceeding.
FROZEN TO DEATH.
New York, Oct. 15.
The bodies of four members of the 1018 Stefansson Artic ox- pedition have been discovered by the captain of a schooner on Herald feland, near Wrangel Island, and identified as the remains of James Murray and Doctor Alister Mackay, British scientists, both formerly with Shackleton.
M. Henri Bauchst, eminent French anthropologist and Stanley Morris, an American sailor, say the evidence Indicates that they were frozen to death in a storm, while asleep from utter exhaustion. Round the camp fire an ample supply of food was found-Reuter's American Service.
THE GREASON INCIDENT.
Calcutta, Oct. 15. The Government of India has telegraphed to the American Con-. sul General stating that it is greatly concerned to hear at the assault upon the American missionurles, Professor and Mrs. Greason at Rangoon. Tho Gavernment of Burma has been asked for a detailed report, meanwhile the Government of India expresses great regret at the unfortunate decurrence and gives "trisurance that all steps will be taken to ensure the safely of Arnericans in Burma and India. Mr. Ramsay Macdonald who yesterday covered two hundred miles and addressed twenty-three meetings had a great send off when he left Newcastle to-day for a tour of Yorkshire and Lancashire.
