MANCHUS HAUNT PALACE-The Manchu ladies have lost much of their former position in Peking, but they continue to pay frequent visits to the Forbidden City, the scene of their old-time triumphs. These ladies, some of the few Manchus who have not lost their wealth in the Revolution, were snapped by R. M. Vanderburgh, head of the Mission Photo Bureau, during a visit to Peking recently. The Chinese authorities have recently forbidden the taking of photographs in the Forbidden City, and this picture was taken while several guards were bearing down on the photographer.
