For attempting to pawn a pair of gold-washod bangles, protond- ing that they wore solid gold, a Chinese was sentenced to ono month's hard labour by Mr. E. W. Hamilton at the Kowloon Magistracy this morning.

In ovillonco an accountant of a pawnshop stated that 'defondant wont into his shop a little after

noon on Monday, with a pair of bangles which he said were made of gold and asked for $10. Witness, thinking that they were gold, paid defendant 810, but on
