Berlin, May 5, Sufficient results are available to indicate roughly the

new Relchstag. The Socialists lost between stitution of the 60 and 60 sents, chiefly to the Communists, but remain the strongest party, with about 100 deputies compared with 172 before second largest with the elections. The. German Nationals are some ninety seats, a gain of between 20 and 25. The Communists have 45 or 50, an increase of between 80 and 35. The relative position of the other parties Is A uncertain, as numerous results have s to come. The extreme Nationalists will probably secure about twenty, compared with three in the last Reichstag. The but form of the netë government is not quite clear at present.

The results of the elections have hitherto already made clear that the extreme Nationalists have in nowise done as well as, was expreted and must be content to take a back seat in, the new Reichstag. Even in the extreme Nationalist stronghold of Munich a large number of votes. went to German Nationals. It ls signif cant that the extreme nationalists did not gained a single seat in occupied territory. On the other hand German Nationals, of whom the late Here Helfferich was the leader and who are Monarchists and reactionaries and opponents of the experts' plans, have done the party in extremely well and will be the second strongest Reichstag-with about ninety sents compared with 67 previously. Communists have done even better than expected and obtained It is note- icarly sixty нents compared with fifteen previously. worthy that they have gained particularly at the expense of the Socialists in occupied territory and also scored heavily in parts of Berlin and the big industrial towns in Saxony and Thuringla. Seemingly practically every former independent Socialist has gone over to-Communism.

The German People's pity led by Herr Stresemann has done badly and is likely to lose a score of seats to the German Nationals. The Catholic Centre party under Marx and the Democrats both held their own and will have over sixty and about forly sents respectively as before. No important changes are expected in other groups. The position of the new Reichstag is very Interest- ing but complicated. There is a certainty that the majority of the deputies will favour the acceptance of the expert reports bot a two thirds majority is necessary for a change in the Constitution in Impossible involved.
