TESTING A ROADWAY.

Columbia

Copyright, Harris & Ewing

Here is shown a roadway undergoing a test by the engineers of the University of Maryland and the U. S. Buroau of Public Roads. It is between Baltimore and Washing- ton. A platform is sot into the road, reeting on two conorete walle and connected to a recording apparatus by a hose of water. Aa a motor car passos over it, the weight of both front and rear axles are recorded. Thus road engineers can keep track of the amount and degree of traffic on the road and note accordingly how it is wearing.
