ESPIONAGE TRIALS.

Berlin, March 18. The Supreme Court at Leipzig sentenced the Swiss cinema manager Biena to eleven years' penal servitude. for espionage on behalf of France.

Tare: Germans accomplices, two soldiers and one woman, were sentenced respectively to thirteen, two and a half. and two years' imprisonment.

It is alleged that Blen acted on the orders of the French Captain Darmont who, it is alleged, is the head at present of the French Espionage Service, and who will be tried at Leipzig on March 20th, The Freuch autherities in the Occupied Region are holding two pro- minent Germans as hastages for Darment.-Reater.

INDIA'S FINANCE BILL

Delhi, March 13.

The Veerly returned the Finance Bill to the Legislative Assem- bly with a recommendation to pass it with the Salt Tax at ose rupee and four annas, and other minor changes. Sir Basil Blackett intro- duced and recommended the Bill to the Assembly. Pundit Motilal Nehru opposed, on the ground that the manner in which it was intro- duced was an affront to the House. He intended no insult or dis- courtesy to the Viceroy, but he urged that the elected members had been taken by surprise. He appealed to the Assembly to preserve the dignity of the House, and vote against the Bill.

The Bill was thrown out without a division. applause. The Bill will go to the Council of State to-morrow for dis- cussion on Saturday, when it is confidently expected to be passed. It will then become law.- Reuter,,

BOLSHEVIKS IN INDIA.

Cawnpore, March 18. The trial has opened here of eight Indians, who are alleged to establish a Bolshevik agents, and are charged with conspiring Communist International organisation throughout India. Four of the accused were absent two of them, Mahendra Nath Roy and an- other, residing outside India

Colonel Kake, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau of the Government of India, gave "evidence that Indian revolutionaries canvened a meeting at Moscow in 1921. and decided upon a pro gramme for furtherance of Bolshevik propaganda. with Roy as their leader. Reuter.

OBITUARY.

London, March 18.

The death is announcel of Sir Frederick Bridge.-Reater.

The name of Sir Frederick Bridge, C.V.O., is familiar to a

BIG FALL IN RUBBER.

London, March 13.

Rubber in London yesterday fell to eleven pesce farthing pound, the lowest since October 1922. This fall is attributed heavy selling by speculaters, principally of forward positions.--- Peuter.
