Brigadier General George T. Pereira, C.B., CM.G., D.S.O, the well-known explorer, who died at Kanze on the Tibetan border on what he had intended would be his last exploration trip in China. His companion, Dr. K. Gordon Thompson, had the mournful duty of burying him and com- pleting the journey from Yunnanfu to Peking. Dr. Thomp- son, was captured by bandits and afterwards released.

A big Fükien tiger was recently killed near Kienninghsien- It weighed nearly 400 lb., and was sold in the market for $320. The flesh and bones of these tigers are considered very valuable by the Chinese, who use them as medicine,

Prominent among those present at the unveiling of Shanghai's war memorial were squads of sailors. From the Allied navies represented in Shanghai.
