MR. WILSON'S QUALITIES.
25
London, Feb. Mr. Wilson's oustanding qualities. and fallings statesman, are summed up in long critical studies of his career in English papers. Particular attention is devoted to the part he He is recognised; as played in connection with the Great War, having been a great idealist, who, more than anyone, inspired the United States to enter the war, but who failed when it came to a question of political tsetles, and hammering out peace.
It is considered a mistake on his part to ever have gone to Versailles. A high tribute is paid to his complete sincerity, and particular note is taken of the fact that he was instrumental in saving the Covenant of the League, which alone earned him a niche in history.
It is agreed that posterity will likely appraise his worth even "more highly than the present generation-Reuter,
RUHR POLICY.
London, Feb. 4
The Macdonald-Poincare correspondence has not given rise to much fruitful comment, but there is a noteworthy absence of any unfavourable criticism of the Premier in any quarter. It a generally thought the letters do not advance the position much, and that M. Poincare's reply conveys the impression that no exchange "of courtesies will deflect him from his Ruhr policy-Reuter,
BRITAIN AND THE SOVIET.
London, Feb. 1.
The Telegraph's political observer says that the British Note to Russia was only presented after the Soviet accepted the principle of membership in the League of Nations, for which they will apply at an early date. They also promise a complete cessation of pro- paganda in India and China.-Reuter,
