CHAMBER DISCUSSES FUTURE OF FRANC.

In the Chamber of Deputies there has begun the debate on the Government's proposals to strengthen the franc. It was declared that the deficit must be removed before exchange can be expected to improve. Should the Chamber of Deputies adopt the Government's proposals, it was declared, the revenues would exceed expenditures by a hundred and sixty-one millions.

FAREWELL TO SIR AUCKLAND GEDDES.

The British Ambassador. Sir Auckland Geddes, rousing farewell dinner. The press all over the country has paid him tributes. He is sailing for England on Saturday.

Prior to his departure Sir Auckland Geddes expressed satisfac- tion at leaving a clean slate" at the Embassy.
