Unusually fine weather favoured the New Year Race Meeting at Shanghai and the course and stands were crowded with spectators who, having experienced icy winds at the last meeting at Kiangwan, came well wrapped in coats and furs. Excellent sport was enjoyed, but favourites "came home" in most of the races and dividends were rather small. There were five races on the day's programme.
