Soochow Creek, at present, is very thickly congested with native boats, and navigation has practically ceased. The creek is gradually becoming silted up owing to lack of dredging, and owing to the increase [of traffic due to the industrial development on this important waterway, serious interference has been caused. Recently the Shanghai River Police have been very busy clearing the block. The above picture was taken from Sinza Road Bridge, and gives a good idea of the state of the creek during low tides.
