THE RUSSIAN SPLIT.

London, Jan. 1.

Reports from Riga state that the struggle within the Communist party in Russia is being rendwed as fiercely as over. It is stated that the Central group is determined to drop M. Trotzky unless he Unconditionally accepts their views with regard to the formation of internal groups. The Prande prints an official reply to Trotzky's recent articles ancompromisingly criticising him and accusing him of anti-Leninism and wilfully sowing dissension for his own tactical purposes. One report asserts that a secret meeting of the political department and party leaders has decided, if the opposition is in- 'creased, to undertake serious measures, including the arrest and banishment of leaders.

Riga, Jan. 1. Wholesale urrests, at the political bureaus in an ostensible cam- paign against drug traffickers, contrabandists and other parasites are causing a panic in Moscow. Whole families are reported to

have been banished to North Russia. The arrested include many sup- porters of the new economic policy and the fact that dissatisfied workmen have been promised the racated flats has encouraged the belief in some quarters that a new attempt to return to pure com- munism is being made in consequence of the present agitatio in political circles-Reuter.

The Hon. Subice Baring-Gould was born 28th Jam.. 1934, at Exeter. He was curate of Horhum, Yorkshire in 1864. Year of Dalton, Yorkshire in 1866, and Rector of East Mersea, Essex in 1871.
