THE LATE MR. J. V. HUNTER.

SILK DEALERS OPPOSE PROTECTION.

"London, Dec. 3.

A group committee representing merchants, importers, whole- salers and distributers silk of goods, appointed at a meeting of the silk trade section of the Londo Chamber of Commerce, has issued an anti-protectionist statement dealing with the tradë in manufactured silk, in the course of which it declares that it is common knowledge that no European country has been able pro- duce Far Eastern silks, and on the other hand Japanese had failed to produce articles made in Europe.
