OBITUARY.

DEATH OF MR. HECTOR SASSOON.

It is with regret that we have to record the death of Mr. Hector W. Sassoon, which took place in A nursing he mé in London, on Saturday. Telegraphic news of Mr. Sassoon's demise reached the Hongkong office of Messrs. E. D. Sassoon and o. this morning and as s mark of respect the office has bean closed to-day.

Mr. and Mrs. Sassoon only left Hongkong in February of this year for a holiday in England. It was intended that they should return to Hongkong by way of Indiz, but a letter received recently from Mrs Sassoon in- timated that Mr. Sassoon had not been well whilst at Home, that the trip to India had been aban- doned and that Mr. Sassoon would probably be going into a nursing home for an operation. The tele- gram to hand to-day is the only other news so far received.

The late Mr. Sassoon, who was only 34 years of age, first came to Hongkong a little under three years ago, joining the firm here as its director. A man of keen business abilities, he was soon appointed on the directorates of

local several

companies, among them being the Hongkong Fire Insurance Company. the Canton Insurance Office, the Peak Tramways Company, the Land Investment Company, the Land Reclamation Company. the Kowloon Wharf and Godown! Company, etc. A keen racing enthusiast, he was the owner of
