DARTMOOR SHET HERD.
Another Release from Prison.
Having spent nearly half a century in prison, Davies, the convict who attained celebrity, in- the character of the Dartmoor shepherd," was released from Parkhurst Prison, last month on completion of three years' pensi servitude.
BA At the time when, 13 years ago, Davies came into public prominence, his age was given as 67 and he was then at Dartmoor serving a sentenca of three years for the theft of ... with 10 years' preventive de- tention because of his criminal record. Bis sentences totalled 51 years, of which 38 had been spent in prison.
Mr. Winston Churchill, thep Home Secretary, investigated hisTM case, and his release, was ordered in January 1911. While at Dart- moor, where he had undergono previous sentences. Davies acted as shecherd to the flock, and Sir Alfred Wills, an ex-judge of the High Court, stated that be was a model prisoner in every way. * "He loved his sheep," wrote Sir Alfred, "took the utmost care of them, and they loved him. He never drove them, bat in a kind of Scriptural fashion led them forth. They obeyed Him, and ho had no trouble with them.

On his release Davies found a situation as a shepherd. and promised to remain for six months; but he mysteriously dis- appeared within two days and was eventually, farrested on charge of burglary, dear Oswestry, four months later.
