Finely crushed alabas ter powder will work won- ders in the way of restor- ing silver shoes, if it is rubbed in steadily with a small clean brush. The" rubbing should continue till the surface takes on & shine, after which the shoes should be given a final polish with a clean brush.

For brightening gold tig- sue, it would be difficult to better pure alcohol, and: again in this case the surface should be rubbed till the brightness 'is re- stared.
