Calcutta, August 27th. toll of the jungle in India does not diminish, and the figures for last year, just published, show that 3,263 persons were killed by wild animals. Tigers were responsible for 1,603, leopards for 509, wolves 460, erocadiles and alligators for 225, bears for 105, wild boars and pigs for 90, elephants for 55 and hyenas for nine, while the mor- tality from snakebite rose to 20,030 during the year.

Twenty-three thousand hundred and sixty-eight animals were destroyed, including 1,766 tigers, 6,108 leopards 3,188 bears, and 4,929 wolves, while the snakes destroyed numbered 58,370.
