KU KLUXERS CAUSE RINT.

Perthamboy, N.J., August 31.

A meeting of the Ku Klux Klan here led to a riot in which the police were obliged to keep back a crowd of five thousand people who were attacking the building wherein the Ku Kluxers were mest- Ing The police used pistols, tear gas, bombs and clubs, but the mobsmashed the windows of the hall and of neighbouring build- ings Hoses used by firemen attempting to assist the police were soon put out of action. On the meanwhile some Klansmen, aided by the police succeeded in escaping by the back windows. Hand to hand encounters followed. There were many casualties but none fatal. Many were arrested.

Telegrams from Moscow state that the third International has has called a conference for the 10th September, to which have been invited the second International of Amsterdam and the Bureau of Trade Uniona, ostensibly to assist German workers, but it is believed that an effort will be made to recreate a united front.

The extraordinary depression in British ship building is shown by the fact that not a single contract was reported as placed on the Clyde or the East coast of Scotland during August, while Clyde launchings only totalled 1,865 tons.
