Death of Well Known Journalist.

Calcutta life and in British journalism in India: has been removed by the death of Mr. Shirley Tremearne, from heart- fallure, at Bangalore, on July 7, in his 75th year.

Mr. Tremearne began his varied career in the East by going out to Barma in 1870, Three years later he joined the Government service, and for a considerable time was the con- fidential clerk of Sir Richard Garth, the distinguished Obief Justice of Banal. He then went into mercantile life and obtained considerable success, showing & quick and eloar judgment. But he will be remembered mainly as the founder, in association with Mr.
