VULCANIZATION OF RUBBER.

A New Process Launched.

A demoustration of the Peachey process for the cold vulcanization of rubber has been given recently at Willesden in the laboratories of the company that owns the patents.

Essentially, the treatment con- sists in exposing the material to. sulphur dioxide for a few mingles. and then to sulphuretted hydro- gen for about three times as long, hath gasra being at ordinary atmospheric pressure, and the whole process taking little more than half an hour. The two gases diffuee into the material and interact with liberation of nase-nt sulphur, thereby bringing jabòut vulcanization. The opera tion being carried out at ordinary températures, it becomes possible to utiliz filling materials and colouring matters which will not |withstand the high temperatures needed in the Goodyear vul-

canization process.
