The first impression of the German memorandum is almost unanimously favourable. Even the intensely Francophile Morning Post in joining in the general opinion that the latest offer is a vast ; Improvement both in tone and contents on its predecessor. It de recognised that concrete guarantees are a long step forward. These are estimated to realise sixty million annually at the outset and will largely increase as economic activity is restored. The repeated German desire to refer her capacity for reparation payments 10 national body is considered a very reasonable request. Paris, June 8. At the resumption of the hearing of the Banque Industrielle cases, accused Berthelot was questioned regarding the failure to establish a reserve against Treasury claims on account War Profits tax. He declared the Banque made to war profits.

The Judge drew attention to the allegation that Berthelot sold 1,531 of the Banque's shares before the crash, and the accused replied that he sold 548 shares in 1919 and bought over 550 shares in 1920.

M. Doyen, the expert who investigated the Banque's position, gave evidence of large credits granted to undertakings whose stability was doubtful
