OUR EVENING FROCKS.
An original evening dress seen recently was made of broad bands of ribbon, black at the edges, white in the middle, and huge red roses spread over it. This ribbon show. ed a silver back, and the dress in question was made up of stripa placed alternate sides uppermost so as to show off the contrast of silver an one side and colours and black and white the other.
* *
Fow evening dresses have any. thing to speak of in the way of a bodice. Some of the new models are draped and have a straight, tight look about them; with these a long "glove" type of sleeve is
WOTD.
The metal fabrics which have a colour woven through them are far more popular for evening wear than anything else. Powder blue woven through gold or silver creates an exquisite effect; lemon yellow with silver, cherry red with gold, and white with copper,
Taffeta seems to be coming back into favour again, which means that extended hips and billowing effects will also have a continued run of popularity.
PRETTY HAIR MOUNTS.
There is something very fascinating abnut- the new turban-shaped hair mounts, now made in the form of a heavy roleux. These are fashioned of rich. coloured chiffon valvet, twisted with bands of gold or silver tissue.
Other turban mounts show Egyptian placque ornaments, Bewn with heavy mock jewels mount- ed in their centre front with dangling bead pen-. dsats.
Leaves made by wired brown tulle, arranged with wing-like profusion, adorn the sides of other striking hair ornaments. Sparkling bead ornaments of lace- like pattarus, carried out in tones of bronze and sapphire blue jewel dust, are a charming relief from the gold and silver and diamante. ornaments of last year,
Turban mounts of black velvet and silver tissue, trimmed with curled beran paradise plumes, or little ostrich tips, are being sold for matron's wear, and add a wonderfully smart finish to an all-black dinner or reception gown.
FASHIONS IN JEWELS.
Pearls are decidedly the most fashionable jewels for day wear. Perhaps this is because fashion is inclined to be rather sober in her day moods.
There is also a penchant for one stone ringe in pre ference to others. The atone is either mounted in plain setting (and, in this case, the stone needs to be a far size), or else, if it be a smaller stone, it is surrounded by small"dia- monds and encased in sa elaborate platinum frame. Nothing, of course, mat- ters that is not platinum these days. Even wedding rings are not quite the thing unless they appear in the form of a plain be- velled platinum band, or else a fat one elaborately chased on the inner side and set on the outer one with tiny diamonds,
FOR SMALL GIRLS.
The diminutive lingerie dressCE are most fascinating. They are of triple ruile, linen, orgondie'or crepe de chine, in all the delicate pastel· shades, trimmed with embroidered dots, net frillsor pin tucks,
