THE MAY DAY DEMONSTRATION,
London, May 2
A procession of May Day demonstrators visited the Japanese, Embassy, where a deputation presented a copy of the resolution adopted in Hyde Park. Subsequently the men's leader announced that the Ambassador was not present, but the Embassy promised a reply, which would be submitted to the workers ca Sunday.
Another member of the deputation declared that the Embassy. intimated that the matter could not be discussed on the ground calculated to disturb harmonious that such procedure was relations. The speaker said that harmonious relations between organised labour of Britain and the Japanese Government were impossible until the latter withdrew troops from Russian territory.

FRANCE AND TURKEY.
London. May 2. Frane-Turkish relations are becoming distinctly unfriendly. reuter's correspondent at Constantinople says that the French Charge d'Affairs, in a communication to Adnan Bey, the Civil Governor, warna him of the possible grave consequences of the concentration of troops on the Syrian frontier and points out that France will be compelled to take precautionary military measures."

In a bitter outburst, Raouf Bey. President of the Council of Commissaries, who, in discussing the Franco-Turkish agreement negotiated with Mr. Franklin Bouillea, denied that Turkish policy has changed, and charged France with not exhibiting the goodwill which Turkey expected from the agreement.

The French Charge d'Affaires has handed a note to the Tur- kish Government declaring that unless concentrations of Turkish troops on the Syrian frontier are immediately withdrawn France will abandon the Laussane Conference.

At the conclusion of the debate on the Naval vote for Singa pore, Mr. Lambert mored his amendment for reduction of the vote as a protest against the expenditure on Singapore. The long de- bate was then wound up.
Mr. Amery said we were at present helpless in Far Eastern waters and dependent upon the goodwill of a friendly Power. He denied that the scheme infringed the spirit of the Washington Treaty.
The amendment was rejected by 253 votes to 94 and the vote carried.
