Tidwell was finally vindicated

by the death-bed confession of the widow of Jim Brown, the man who he was charged with killing.

Applications for a pardon for Tidwell had been rejected by Presidents Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson before and investigation was started by Attorney General Daugherty.

Tidwell was only 14 years old ? when be entered prison. All. appeals for clemency were denied until Mr. Brown said as she was dying that it was bar lover, who later became her second husband, “who was the actual murderer. Mrs. Brown had been indicted jointly with Tidwell but } she was acquitted;-
