GERMAN CREW RESCUED.

Difficult Task of the Hakozaki- Maru.

The N.Y.K. steamer Hakozaki- maru, which arrived at Kobe.re- cantly brought word of a gallant rescue in the Bay of Biscay. The story was told by the purser, "Mr. Tajima. He said the Harozaki. maruwas steamingdown the coast of France in inclement weather on the afternoon of February 21st- when they described a steamship adrift in the distance. Approach- ing they found it to be a German cargo boat, the Otto Fisher (6,000 tons), bound for South America. In the storm the rudder, had been smashed, and the boar was gradu- ally sinking. EUROPE'S TINZEST ARMY.

Bruarele: The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, according to the "Journal d'Escb," is about to re- orgainise its array.

But Europe need not tremble, for, though the increase will dou- ble the fighting force of Lukem- bourg, the whole army will con- sist only of about 500 men, all volunteers.

When the baby of the Grand Duchess was born recently, the necessary salute to herald the new arrival had to be fired with guns borrowed from France.

By the new organisation, the soldiers of Luxembourg will serve four years, and a reserve of 1,500 men will be formed.
