To honour the late Brigadier General Gorgas, who directed sanitation in the Canal Zone and reduced disease to a minimum, the Republic of Panama "will erect, a structure covering five acres to be known as the Gorgas Memorial Institute of Research in Tropical Diseases and Preventive Medicine.
