GOING LATE TO THE THEATRE.

- Writing of a new play, a Lon- don critic makes the following comments, that might be digested by certain Hongkong folk ——-*-

There is a zed warping across the face of the tickets for the first night of this play that "Istocomers will not be admitted until the curtain has fallen after the first act". This, we would remind our readers, is no idio threat, as those of there; who have tried the experiment of arriving, Fate at: a Baandaan first night willówno doubt recollect to their, sorrow, The curtain on this occasion does not rise until 8.30-half an hour. after the usual "habit of first nights; but it is one of the strangs per ornities of human nature that, however late an entertainment. is announced to begin, there are always plenty of people to be found willing to arriva a little later..

The first night of the "9 Ja'Clock Revue" at the Little Theatre was a case, in point. This bour might have been) Ideemed late enough for the most leisurely diners but in accordance with the above perversity, when the curtain went up on the, first performance some months ago the stails were only in process of filling. A gentle but determined threat like that of Reandean at the St. Martin's can be trusted to have its effect, and as the pushing past in the darkness of those who hold seatain the: centre of rows is eliminated there' will be the fewer stamped-on toss and buckled opera-hats and e considerable increase in the general bappiness.
