The vessel encountered E strong southwesterly gale, and when near the Lizard, abe got too close to land and went ashore. under the signal station. The rocket apparatus was got to work and the lifeboat, was launched: So bigh were the seas that on two occasions the lifeboat was almost hauled on to the deck" of the ship.

Subsequently, twenty men were rescued by means of the rock-t apparatus.
