The anniversary of the poet Robert Burns has been made memorable this year by an im portant gift to the nation.”

The farm of Ellisland, near Dumfries, where Barns wrote. many poems, including “Aüld Lang Syne and * Tem o' Shanter," was purchased some time ago by Mr. George William- son, an Edinburgh merobant, and . a great admirer of Burns. Mr. Williamson died recently, and on bis instructions his brother, Mr. John Williamson, also an admirer of the poet, bas made the bequest to the nation.

Ellisland will now become a Burns shrine, and the Town" Council of Dumfries have under- taken to preserve the property so that it shall remain a worthy, memorial of the poet and be s [contre of interest for Burns devotees. The farm buildings are to be kept as they were, but a modern house, is also to be pro- vidad.

The gift of Ellisiaad; which extends to 170: acres, will add new interest to Burns attrac tions in the countryside,
