THE PROBLEM OF TURKEY.

London, Feb. 9. Lord Curzon's statement regarding the Lausanne Conference bas had a good Press.

The newspapers in leading articles emphasise generally the fact that Ismet Pasha is responsible for having rejected a Treaty embodying the mast liberal concessions ever made to a vanquished enemy. They pay a tribute to the sagacity and firmness with which Lord Curzon discharged his mission in the concluding stages at Lausanne, and they note with satisfaction that a similar tribute is paid by the French Press. Stress is laid on the discrimination shown by Lord Curzon at Lausanne never to depart from the prin- ciple of absolute solidarity with Britain's Allies, and the beljef | is expressed that such co-operation of the Allies in future will con- vince the Turks of their error of judgment in rejecting the Treaty. It is reiterated that the questions on which the Turks failed to come to terms concern France more especially.

The Times hopes that the Turks will realise very soon that on essentials of a Turkish place France and Great Britain are now unmistakably as one.

The Daily Telegraph says:-It is easy to believe Ismet Pasha had been thrown completely of his balance by the surprise of Lord Curzon's curt refusal to consider a proposal of a separate peace between Great Britain and Turkey, which had heen pressed, upon him more than once. At the end of the most remarkable object lesson in the practice of Oriental diplomacy ever given to Europe, Ismet Pasha finds himself alone and empty-handed after having been actually offered and pressed to accept terms of settlement and guarantees of security "such as Turkey never before gnjoyed even in the plenitude of her power," as Lori Curzon's statement pats t. We express the courite that sooner hur later the monstrous absurdity of this position will get remedied in Turkey's own plain

interest.

RUHR COAL FOR FRANCE AND BELGIUM.

Berlin, Feb. 9.

At the Budget Pommittee in the Reichstag the Minister of the Interior stated that only 22,000 tons of coal and 17.000 tons of coke reached France and Bellum from the occupied part of the Buhr between Jan. 15 and 31 and only, $59 tons have been des patched to France since.

London. Feb. 9.

In pursuance of the occupation of the southern boundary of the Ruhr-apa the French last night occupied Remscheid, a large agricultural machinery manufacturing centre. Thus they have almost encircled the famous steel manufacturing town of Solingen Just within the British zone. The logical extension of this occupa- tion will take the French to the most important textile areas of Barmen and Elberfedo. Military movements however do not help to solve transport and other diffulties in the Ruhr with regard to which Paris telegrams indicate public dissatisfaction with the

M-auccess of the government measures hitherto.

THERE NEVER WAS SUCH A COMEDY!

Imagine the whole feminine population of a town donning masculine attire as an expression of their ascendancy over mere men.

And guess what untold misery these poor fellows have got to undergo when they are put into skirts and told off for household duties. The idea is superb, and you will enjoy it in the story of the great enfranchisement of women in
