The Bandon correspondent of the Bangkok Times, writing on January 19th, states:-Derails of the accident, which resulted in the death of Mr. S. G. Turrill, and two Siamese employees; at the new coal mine near Bandon, have just reached me. This mins is at Kien Sah, some three hours by launch above the railway station at Surat, and is the property of the Biam Coal Mine Co., Ltd. Oz
Mr. Torrill was proceeding to rail head on his way to the mine. At rail head there was an old Ford- car, which be used to carry him from there several kilometres further on to the mine. Two ting of petrol had been placed on the first car back of the engine, the car in which Mr. Turrill was rid- ing. The story told is that Mr. Tarrill told the coolies, who had placed it on the car, to put it on the engine as "the car Was Dot going clear to rail head. This was done, and a young Siamese student mechanic turned one of the tins down and sat on it
The engine and car had pro- ceeded about a kilometre and a half, when there was an explosion. followed within a few seconds by a second one. The driver was instant-

Everything possible was done for the sufferers, but they were doomed from 6ret Mr. Turrill was conscious until the last, passing away some six boots after the accident. Mr. Knod Larsen, of the East Asiatic Co. was notified and went up at once, bringing the body down to Bandon," where it was interred on Wednes- day, with a brief but impressive service.
Mr. Turrili had but recently come put from England as the coal ex- pert for this new enterprise, and go was not well-known. "He was. however, well liked in every way by his associates, who, d-eply regret bis autimely death. It was especially sad for Mr. and Mr. Larsen, whose guest he was for several days during the Christ- mas holidays. We understand Mr. Turrill has several sistötu who " survive him, all living in England.
