Landa, Jan. 20. In a lecture before the Central Asian Society. Lieut.-Colonel Etherte, British Consul-General at Kashgar, said the fundamental principle of Chinese policy in Turkestan was freedom from foreign domination, and when that was secured they showed greatest toleration of differences of opinion.

Sir John Jordan referred to the unenviable position of three hun- dred thousand Russians in Manchuria in view of the Bolshevista scrap- ping the treaties with China, He said China was very suspicious of the Moscow-Government and would probably insist on the settlement of some other outstanding questions before renewing treaty relations.
