The American Federation Trade Unbias, on November 15, sent to Mr. Thomas, Head of the International Federation, a statement declaring that the American Trade Unions were unwilling to com- mit themselves to any agreement with regard to an international Strike in case of war, or renounce their national entity, seek nationalisation of wealth or enter any gathering where the trend of discussions was arranged in advance.

At the opening of the debate on the Ship Subsidy Ball, in the House of Representatives to-day, the Democratic leader, Mr. Finis James Garrett, declared that the Republican Administration, with the death-rattle in its throat, was running true to form by favour- ing special interests.
Mr. Frank Wheeler Mondell, the Republican leader, in replying averred that the Republicans had been unable in 18 months to cure all the ills left by the late Democratic Administration.
CAPTAIN EVANS DECORATED.

The thrilling story of the gallantry of Captain Edward R. G. R. Evans C.B., D.S.O., R.N., who was in command of H. M. S. Carlisle in March last year, when 1,100 Chinese were reacted from on board the s.. Hong Moh, when the vessel was wrecked near Hongkong, was told at Lloyds to-day.
The occasion was the presentation to Captain Evans of the Lloyds Gold Medal. The presentation was made by the Chairman of Lloyds.
