According to E Home pape zood progress is being made at Birkenhead with the construction of the P. & O. s. Moldavia, on which about 1,500 man are en- gaged. The ship, which is of the company's intermediate type, and is intended for mail, passed- ger and cargo service between London and Australia by way of Colombo, is of 15,500 tons grose, and will be the first completed of

a group of four. The others--00 the Tyne and the Ligan-are the Woolten, the Malois and the Mongolia. The old Moldavia was of only 9,500 tons, and bad twin screw reciprocating engines. and two funnels, while the new vesaal, although so much larger, will require only, one funnet for the furnaces and boilers which (will supply ateam for her twin-- screw double-reduction geaTED: turbines.
