The other day we mentioned efforts which were being made locally by the Chinese author. ities to suppress the sale of "love novels," which term, in China, seems to be synonymous with obscene literature. It is reported that a certain amount of progress has been made in the direction locally, but that such books are still being sold in large numbers in cities and towns of the interior.
