INCREASING AIR TRAFFIC. The figures for April for the nie port of Le Bourget, says a Paris message, show that 3,391' aeroplanes stored and cleared, {carrying 1,571 passongara, 36 tons of goods, and 436 out, of mails. The corresponding figures for April last year were 285 | seroplanes, 985 passengers, 10 tons, of goods and Di owl of mails. This year's figures thus show * substantial increase. except as far as mails are con- cerned.

ELECTRICITY UNDERTAKINGS IN

SHANTUNO.

Within the past ten years the e has been a ràpid growth of in- terest in electricity undertakinga {în Shantung, principally in there İrelating to alectric light, self-

phone, and tramwaye. In 1894- an electric light company was established at Tainan, called the Tsipan Electric Light Company. As this time electric light was entirely new to the inhabitants of the city, and such was the con- |servatism of the people, that, with the exception of the Government offices to which the compa› y supplied about three bundred | lamps, the number of private sub- scribers was insignificant. To wards the end of the Manchu. | dynasty, however, basiness grad- ually improved, and now the com. pany has sold over one hundred thousand lamps. The annu»! profit is estimated to reach $100,- 000, and the company is now in- (stalled in a new building which | is equipped with machinery of the latest type. Next in importance fo the Tainan Electric Light Co. is the Twining Electrio Light Com. psoy which was established in 1918 | with a capital of $80,000,.' When the Company was first inaugurat- ed only about one thousand lamps were sold but the number has gradually increased to four thou sand. The amount of capital has gradually increased to $200,000.- The Electric Light Company at Yangize was started by certain Japanese capitalists, but in view of the opposition of the local in- habitants and the Spancist losses sustained by the company through poor bussiness, it was transferred to a Chinese concern and refloated with a capital of 830,000 in 1920. ».
