Chamber was adopted. Mr. R. J. Dunlop referred to the attitude taken up by the Labour Party id regard to the remission of direct taxation. It had been most un- fortunate, be thought, that they either did not see, or pretended not to see, the economie fact that this direct taxation on industry was the premier cause of want of employment. With taxation as at present there was no induce- ment for business men to go into any venture with the slightest risk, and industries that existe had been bled white, so that there was not the capital lofs to increase or advance working in the way of giving further emplo; -- ment. Mr. George A. Mirche i said it should be impressed on al that the relative proportion of direct taxation was very much beavier now than formerly. It would have been perfectly fair of the Chancellor of the Exchequer to make a reduction on direct taxation without making aty reduction on Indirect taxation. He thought the working man bad been very fairly treated.
