SOUTH IRISH ELECTIONS.

More Pro-Treaty Gains.

Reuter's Service,

London, June 10, The South Irish elections continue to be strongly pro-Treaty. Mr. Sean O'Kelly, the ex-Sinn Fein Ambassador to Paris is the only Repablioso to be elected in Dublin, where the other slaven sokin aro distributed as follows-Coalitionists 7, Independents 3 and Labourite All are pro-Tranty. O'Kelly was only elected after the sixth and final count. Vote conating in the County of Dublin was adjourned at three in the morning, because sixty-four ballot papers were miss- ing. Otherwise, the pro-Treatrites, Mr. Darrell Figsis and the Labourite, Mr. Johnson, who easily headed the poll, would formally have been declared elected. Mr. Arthur Griffith, the President of the Dail Eireans, headed the voting in County Cavan. Üthar results in the provinces are equally striking in favour of the Treaty and in- clude one Labour, two Coalition, Pro-Treatrites, and one Farmers Party at Carlow, Kitkanny, where both. Coalition and Republicans were defeated: four Coalition pro-Treatyites, two Coalition Re- publicans and one Labaurits in Gstway, where the anti-Treaty ex- tremists Lism and Mellowes were defeated.

The Parties' Positions.

London, June 20.

The position of the parties in the South Irish elections at five o'clock this evening were: Coalition pro-Treaty 47, Coalition Re- publicans 26, Labour 10, and ladependents 12. The changes have been at the expense of the Republicans.

Irish Debate Postponed.

London. Jure 20.

la the House of Commons, Mr. Winston Churchill postponed his Iriah statement, which he was to bare made on Thursday, on the ground that an Irish disenssion at present might have a prejudi- eisl public interest, as there were so many uncertain factors,

Further Details.

Later.

The results in Ireland hitherto have been 44 Coalition pro- Treaty: 25 Coalition Republican: 11 Labour: & Independant, and 4 Trinity College, Dublin. Thirty-cine seats remain. Under the system of proportional representation the votes transferred from Arthur Griffith's surplus in Cavan have secured the return of the pro-Treatyites, Cole and Milroy.

Mr. Gavan Duffy, a statement, says that the elections have shows that proportional representation has come to stay in Ireland. "

An analysis of the votes in Dublin City shows that 72,285 were pro-Treaty and 10,931 anti-Treaty. The Independent and Labourite candidates are greatly encouraged at the results. There was only one Labour nominee for the Leix and Offaly Constituency, but he polled over two quotas, sufficient to elect two Labourites under the proportional system. -

MERCHANTS DESIRE SUN'S SAFETY.

Our special correspondent at Canton telegraphs this morning as follows

Members of the Chamber of Commerce are proceeding to Sheklong to interview General Chan King-ming regarding the situation. One of their objects is to secure a promise of the personal safety of Sun Yat-sen in the event of his defeat, soggeating, as an alternative to other measures, shat he be deported.

The military situation, according to information received at the Military Headquarters, is that 7,000 of Chao King- ming's forces have been despatched to the north, under the command of General Laung Hong-kal, to bar the way of General Hou Sung-chi, whose 15,000 troops bavo arrived at Shiukwan, badly provisioned and equipped. The telegraph wires between Canton and Shinkwan were cut down on the entry of General Hsu Sung-chi into the latter town.

As a measure of precaution against a repetition of fin. • bombardment of the city. the Defence Commissari (General Chong Wing-son) bus had mounted twenty- DU 1.5 centimetre gans on the East Bood and on the Honin side.

In consequence of the looting in the Tungshan district. the U.S.S. Pampanga went down and took aboard a large number of American-Chinese refugees, bringing them to the Sbameen.
